METHOD FOR DETERMINING THE TRUE SIZES OF MELANOCYTIC NEVUS OF CONJUNCTIVA
A melanocytic nevus (also known as " nevocytic nevus" or " nevus-cell nevus " is a type of lesion that contains nevus cells (a type of melanocyte). Diagnosis of conjunctival nevi has hitherto been limited to routine general-ophthalmologic examination using biomicroscopy, which, due to the objective limitations of the method, does not allow us to evaluate in detail both the morphometric parameters of the neoplasm and the peculiarities of its structure.
A new method for determining the true size of melanocytic nevi has been developed at the department of pediatric ophthalmopathology of SI "The Filatov Institute of Eye Diseases and Tissue Therapy of N AMS of Ukraine". This method increases the level of quality of diagnosis of melanocytic neoplasms of conjunctiva in children and adolescents.
The proposed method has many advantages over other types of diagnostics, providing an opportunity to accurately determine the true size of the lession.
